Palestinians clashed with Israeli police at Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound on Sunday just hours before the start of the Jewish New Year, police and witnesses said.
Israel's police released a statement following the clashes saying that as part of a joint operation between the Jerusalem police and the Shin Bet, a raid took place in East Jerusalem where a number of pipe bombs were seized.
The disturbances came with tensions running high after Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon last week outlawed two Muslim groups which confront Jewish visitors to the compound which is holy to both faiths.
The hilltop compound in Jerusalem's Old City, one of the biggest flashpoints in the Middle East, is the most sacred site in Judaism and Islam's third holiest, after Mecca and Medina.
