Today our host Gregory Wilpert speaks with José Agualsaca, the President of the Federation of Indigenous Peoples and Campesino Movements and Organizations (FEI) about the current situation of the indigenous movement in Ecuador and its relationship to the government at a time when this movement seems to be divided. The discussion ranges from the advances for indigenous people in Ecuador’s new Constitution, to measures still lacking such as a new land law, the FEI’s position on government extraction and mining policies, the reasons that some parts of the indigenous movement are opposed to the government, and the FEI’s role in international groupings. teleSUR
