The next sparring method I have created is called Touch Contact Safe Sparring. It is the next level above No Contact Safe Sparring. Touch contact still is considered very safe for the participants. You don’t actually hit the sparring partner but you just touch him in the areas that you find that are open to be exploited. This touch contact at least gives him a feeling that his defensive methods have not been perfected. When the sparring partner is purposefully holding back all contact even though he could have made contact, that could give the beginner a false perception that his defensive abilities are capable of preventing real attacks because there is no contact being made.

When there is at least touch contact sparring, the beginner will at least know that if contact is being made, there still needs to be much improvement required to develop his defensive skills. Because there is very little impact from the attacks it does not jeopardize the health and safety of the participants. But the problem is, if there is lack of control of techniques and emotions, the touch contact can escalate to light contact spontaneously, thus placing both participants in greater risk of injury.
