ATTOCK: A spray used to prevent the spread of the dengue virus proved dangerous at the Government Girls Highschool Jand here on Thursday.

50 students fainted during the fumigation process which was taking place while the school was in session.

The students were taken to a local hospital where their condition is said to be stable.

Speaking to Geo News the affected students said the fumigation was carried out during recess time; however, the intensity of the spray was so severe that they started suffocating and passed out.

The administration of the hospital said 120 students were brought out of which 10-20 were affected by the dengue spray. Five girls were still being treated at the hospital while the rest had been discharged.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has called for an inquiry report into why the fumigation took place without proper safety measures.

A call attention notice has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly over the incident by Opposition Leader Mehmood-ur-Rasheed.

The notice asks if it is correct that substandard dengue spray was used at the school.

The call attention notice also seeks for a case to be lodged against those responsible for the incident.
