For many, summer means warmer weather, fun in the sun and, unfortunately, severe weather such as intense heat waves, thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes. In recent news, heavy rains have led to flash floods and high winds have damaged homes, cars, and streets with downed trees and other debris. Severe weather can occur at any time, so it is important to plan ahead and be prepared for the unknown!

On Thursday, August 20, 2015, professional storm clean-up expert, certified arborist, and world champion tree climber Jared Abrojena will be available to walk you through simple steps to weather proofing your home and provide you with valuable storm safety tips.

In 2013, Jared spent weeks in the woods of Augusta National Golf Club ( home to the most prestigious tournament in golf, The Masters) as part of a team of expert arborists called in to trim branches, fell broken loblolly pines and generally clean up from a severe ice storm that hit eastern Georgia just weeks before the 2013 tournament.

From preparing for a storm to clean-up after a storm, Jared will be able to walk you through the following tips:

Safety First - Pick a safe place in your home to gather during a storm. Preferably away from windows, skylights, or glass doors!
Make a List – What outdoor items need to be brought inside?
Make Trees and Shrubbery More Wind Resistant - The last thing you want is a downed tree in your living room or on your car! Jared will show you everything from pointing out a dangerous branch to removing potential disaster makers.
Be Prepared - Create an emergency preparedness kit with items such as, water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, batteries, first-aid kit, etc.
