Wes Craven was a horror genius. Maybe it was his strict religious upbringing that made his imagination run rampant. We are glad it did. We would never have such iconic characters as Freddy Krueger or Ghostface.
The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise made us afraid to fall asleep at night. Making our nightmares, well nightmares. Freddy Krueger clawed his way into our dreams, and ripped those puppy dogs and sugar canes to shreads. Yet, we wanted more. Only Wes Craven's mind could have given is that drug.
It was the Scream franchise where he revamped the teen horror comedy. Making fund and challenging itself. The Scream movies looked all the tropes and cliches found in classic horror movies, and spun the genre around into something new. Ghostface and his eternal screaming expression became part of the horror genre easily. The character represented a new type of slasher. One that could be any one of us. Yet, we wanted more.
Wes Crave's death doesn't mean the imagination has stopped. He will forever keep our hearts pumping with thrills for years to come.
