One of my former students that I trained with for a couple of years. We had a good relationship. He had a big heart when it came to sparring, he didn't really make a big deal about getting hit or making contact, he enjoyed the sparring. Some people say they don't mind but then they end up not coming back, but his student wasn't afraid to spar and work towards improving himself in that area.

But the problem was that he was my height and just weighed probably 15 pounds more than me, which meant that he didn't really have much reach and because he didn't weigh much more that meant he could not take as much hits, basically it is much better to spar with bigger and taller people than yourself so that more contact can be made without jeopardizing the persons well being, when you spar with someone your size or smaller, you always risk the chance of hitting the person too hard which can result in some serious injuries to your sparring partner.

It's not that small people cannot spar, it's just that it takes an immense amount of training for a small person to be effective in sparring, if you are sparring with beginners, the bigger and larger man has a natural advantage, an experienced small person can even have difficulty sparring a larger and stronger novice. But if you are small and a novice, you really have no natural advantages on your side. Fact of the matter is, when you are small, you have no choice but to be on the top of your game, if you are not, you will be demolished.

I don't like sparring people smaller than myself, there was even a time when I almost accidentally killed someone by kicking him in the chest a little too hard, I think the guy only weighed about 125 lbs. When someone is super small and untrained, they can get easily injured quick. A larger person, it's just harder to hurt him. Just think of the difference between a punching bag that weighs only 50 lbs compared to another that weights 150 lbs, it's a world of a difference.

That's why even fat people can be considered good fighters because they have so much weight behind them, they have natural force and power that can be generated. But a small person, he really needs to train a lot to be able to defend himself properly.
