Guatemala’s Congress stripped President Otto Perez Molina of his immunity on Tuesday in a move that will force him to face prosecution for massive corruption. All 132 lawmakers in attendance voted in favor of removing immunity. For the last four months, tens of thousands of people have taken to the street to demand that the president step down due to his alleged participation in the “La Linea” customs bribery ring. Today’s resolution does not remove Perez Molina from office, but prosecutors can now file charges against him just like any other citizen. teleSUR
