The Colombian government failed to obtain the necessary votes during a session of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the regional body to intervene in its dispute with Venezuela over the latter's decision to close its border. The OAS member countries expressed the view that the issue should be resolved diplomatically between the two countries, which is also Caracas' position. Venezuela closed its border to curtail paramilitary activity and massive smuggling of subsidized food and gasoline into Colombia. teleSUR
