Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has requested an emergency meeting of the South American Union of Nations (UNASUR) to deal with the border crisis with Venezuela, but Caracas must also call for such a meeting for it to take place. UNASUR Secretary General Ernesto Samper has met with the presidents of both countries. A UNASUR statement urged Venezuela to stop deporting Colombian nationals and called for institutional norms to address the problems in the border area. Liz Scherffius report from Quito.
