Fiat India has teased a photo of its upcoming 500 Abarth on Twitter. The Abarth is a much sportier version of the standard Fiat 500, which had earned a cult status amongst its followers when it was launched. Will the Abarth 500 be able to match it? Only time will tell.
Under the hood, the Abarth 500 would be equipped with a four-cylinder 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir petrol engine capable of producing 160bhp of peak power and 230Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The price of the Fiat Abarth 500 when it is launched is expected to be priced around 25 lakhs mark which would make it in a same league as the MINI Cooper, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class. But in order to make the Abarth 500 a success, Fiat will have to improve its dealership network in India, which is currently at a very poor state for a carmaker of its stature.
