PKR 8th Congress, Nov 27, 2011: PKR Batu MP Tian Chua today called upon BN component party Gerakan to stay true to its manifesto and join their Pakatan Rakyat collegaues by taking a stand against the Public Assembly Bill.
"Gerakan MPs should take the challenge and come with us to reject the bill.
"I'll respect their decision to stay in BN if they dare to break ranks on issues," he said after the closing ceremony of the PKR Congress in Pulai.
Gerakan has two MPs--Gerik MP Tan Lian Hoe and Simpang Renggam Liang Teck Meng.
According to Chua, the invitation is extended to Gerakan as the party's principles are similar to PKR.
"Gerakan's manifesto is similar to PKR, and its purpose is close the PKR's but it is finding that it cannot realise this in the BN," he said.
He added that if the MPs and leadership do not dare to embark on bi-partisan cooperations, grassroots members are encouraged to join hands with Pakatan Rakyat parties on issues which they agree on.
Chua had said this at the press conference held to accept the application of Selangor Gerakan Youth information chief Delren Terrence Douglas.
Delren, who joined the PKR Sungai Petani branch, said he resigned via text message this morning as he was tired of Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon kowtowing to Umno.
