2015-08-18 3

An Ecuadoran judge denied a government move to deport French-Brazilian academic and journalist Manuel Picq. She was arrested during Thursday night's violent opposition protest in Quito together with her partner, Carlos Pérez Guartambel, president of the opposition Movement of the Indigenous People of Ecuador. Under Ecuadoran law, foreigners are prohibited from participating in domestic politics. Picq's visa expires on August 28 and it is not clear how the controversial case will end.
