Arul: We have to build our own strengths
We speak to PSM's Arutchelvan who stood for the state seat of Semenyih at the recent 13th General Election.
At the 2008 general election, Arul lost to Johan Abdul Aziz of Umno by just 1,140.
For the recently concluded 2013 general election, he had to also contend with PKR's Hamidi Hasan, chosen by Pakatan Rakyat to stand for this seat.
This time round Semenyih saw a three-cornered fight between incumbent Johan Abd Aziz, PKR's Hamidi Hasan and Arul who contested under PSM's own logo. This was the first time that PSM was able to run under its own logo, which had been approved by the government only recently.
PSM's Saraswathy also flew their own colours when she contested but lost the Pahang state seat of Jalapang.
Arul didn't fare very well, garnering just 5,568 votes from the 42,344 eligible voters, while Hamidi received 13,471 and the incumbent who won with 17,616.
