The government says the area of a temple that DBKL officers tried to demolish on Sunday was not in fact part of the place of worship - but was in fact a canteen, which the temple leaders tried to convert into a prayer hall as a cover-up. Sri Muneswarar Kaliamman has fiercely decried these allegations - and told officers off for ignoring Hindu rituals by roughly removing deities without giving them a chance to pray first.
