Puerto Rico’s health system is at risk as the result of a plan proposed by the International Monetary Fund to deal with the territory’s public debt crisis. Experts from the fund have advised the Puerto Rican government to cut US$150 million from its health budget. Senior citizens are likely to be among the hardest hit, but others will also suffer from the cuts, which will reduce subsidies to health plans and make monthly payments more expensive. teleSUR
