Ecuador: U. S. Tried to Woo Indigenous Leaders

According to cables released this Friday from the U.S. Embassy, the United States has been trying to turn indigenous leaders against the democratically elected administration of President Rafael Correa. The reveal that in 2005-2006 Vice President Santiago de la Cruz of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) and Congressman Jorge Guzman expressed interest in open dialogue. The revelations come as Conaie calls for an indigenous uprising on August 10, while many other indigenous and social organizations call for a pro-government march on August 12. teleSUR
