First Venomous Frogs Identified In Brazil

Scientists working in Brazil have identified the first species of frogs that are considered venomous--which is different from poisonous--because they have tools in the form of spines around their lips with which to inject the toxins.

Frogs don’t often generate the same level of fear that other forest creatures do, but they can be just as potent. 


In fact, a new study describes the first two species of frogs, which were documented in Brazil some time ago but only recently found to be venomous.


While amphibians are known to produce toxins, they had previously been classified as merely poisonous due to their seeming lack of delivery method like fangs or stingers.
