On April 19, the Islamic State group in Libya released a graphic video showing at least 28 African Christians being killed.
Among them was 30-year-old Tesfay Kidane, an Eritrean who was reportedly trying to reach Europe by sea through Libya after being rejected for asylum in Israel, where he had been detained at the Holot detention centre.
His death has thrown the spotlight on the Jewish state's controversial immigration policies, which rights groups say have seen thousands of African asylum seekers coerced into "voluntary" departures.
