Ecuador: Despite Opposition Protests, Nat'l Debate Moves Forward

While Ecuador's opposition continues to call street protests against two proposed progressive tax measures, President Rafael Correa's initiative for a national debate on the proposals as well as on social equality and wealth distribution is moving forward. New forces are joining and broadening the dialogue, such as Afro-Ecuadorans, the country's poorest sector. Rejecting the debate, the opposition is planning an "indigenous uprising" and national strike for August 10 and 13. Liz Scherffius reports from Quito. teleSUR
