Tens of thousands of dissident Mexican teachers took to the streets of Oaxaca Monday to protest the federal and state government decision to disband the State Educational Institute in which the local branch of the National Teachers Coordinating Committee (CNTE) had decisive input in hiring and work-related decisions. Authorities reject negotiating with the CNTE and the dissident teachers are planning a national strike when the new school year begins in late August. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico City. teleSUR
