Fiat Chrysler: record fine and stricter monitoring after recall process "failures"

Motor manufacturer Fiat Chrysler has been hit with a record fine and will have to submit to stricter monitoring by the US vehicle safety regulator angry at failures in its recall process.

It comes just days after the manufacturer announced another recall, this time over software faults.

Record fine

It will cost the company 105 million dollars, the equivalent of around 94 million euros.

This eclipses the previous record fine of 70 million dollars – 63 million euros – handed out to Honda back in January.

What else will Fiat Chrysler have to do?

Fiat Chrysler may have to buy back as many as 1.5 million vehicles as part of the agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
