'Americans have to change their eating habits'

Sam Kass, a former White House chef and a public face of first lady Michelle Obama's anti-childhood obesity campaign spoke to FRANCE 24's Mairead Dundas. He explains that one of the biggest problems for Americans is that they eat too much and too unhealthily. But according to him, progress is being made in this field.

One in every three American children is overweight, but as schools have begun serving better and healthier foods, researchers are actually seeing a decline in obesity among the youngest kids. “Serving fruit or vegetables with every meal has been a big battle,” Kass said, but added that “we’re on the right course [now] and the key is not to turn back”.
When it comes to the president and his family, Kass said he rarely caught the US leader secretly indulging in junk food. “He is the most disciplined person I have ever met.”
