A hen named Gertrud has taken 10 rhea chicks under her wing at the Tiergarten Worms just south of Frankfurt and has been looking after the chicks, which are already taller than her, for six weeks. Male rhea birds are the usual caregivers of their young, responsible for incubating and raising their chicks. However, after the baby rhea were born, their daddy became territorial and stopped performing his fatherly duties. Zookeepers ran out of options and decided to bring in Gertrud.
