New Chapter Opens in U.S./Cuban Relations

Today was a historic day for Cuba, as its embassy was formally reopened in Washington, following Raul Castro and Barack Obama's first announcement 7 months ago of their commitment to reestablish relations. The population of both countries welcomed the move. The White House said Washington looks forward to working with the Cuban government on issues of common concern, such as counter-terrorism and disaster response, but for now does not intend to discuss the return of Guantanamo Base to Havana. teleSUR
