In the State of Mexico, 95% of the 2,500 cases of femicide reported in the last 10 years have gone unsolved and unpunished. Families of victims and human rights activists have demanded the implementation of a statewide gender alert. Last week Governor Eruviel Avila finally solicited the measure, but for only for 11 of the state’s 125 municipalities. Rights defenders demand that the alert be implemented throughout the entire state with transparency and active citizen participation. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico for teleSUR.
