Bullet Ants' Sting Causes 'Worst Known Pain To Man'

2015-07-17 3

Although this insect may be small in size, a bullet ant's sting is painful enough to make a person feel like they've been shot.

Ants may be diminutive, but some can still inflict the pain of a creature many times their size.

The bullet ant is one such species with a sting believed to be "the worst pain known to man."

It has been described as feeling equivalent to being shot, which is where the name stems from.

The agonizing pain is said to last for anywhere between 12 to 24 hours.

One entomologist, Dr. Justin Schmidt, has been stung by over 150 species of venomous insects and claims the bullet ant is the worst.
