Emergency officials are renovating hurricane shelters and have increased their readiness to respond to future disasters in eastern Caribbean nations. As of the year 2000, improvements were made in renovating public buildings to serve as shelters. In the case of Saint Lucia, many of the shelters are schools that have access to water in case of disasters.
