Tata's new Nano is a proper facelift to the old variant which was launched in 2009. Riding the hype of being the cheapest car in the world, Tata decided to redefine their latest release - with new design, better engine, a large boot - and shed that cheap tag.
The AMT is expected to act as a catalyst to this. Positioned as a smart city car, an automatic version for the Nano makes perfect sense. The small engine negates the many benefits of AMT. With an openable boot the car is a sure footed and seriously redefined.
But, even with these, Tata needs to untangle itself from the vicious cycle of pricing and beg, borrow or steal, if need be, a bigger engine and smarter clothes.
