Syria Restores Artifacts to Preserve Cultural Heritage

Four years of war in Syria have had a significant impact on the country’s cultural heritage. Many artifacts have been stolen and smuggled abroad, and others have been destroyed by extremists. Syrian officials say they are struggling to preserve the history of humankind and have restored at least 65,000 of these artifacts. On the cliffs around the ancient city of Maalula, a new statue of the Virgin Mary was erected last month. Hazem Abdullah reports from Damascus for teleSUR.
