The United States government has just announced that it will lift a 15-year trade barrier that prevented the import of Argentine beef. The U.S. finally declared that the Latin American nation is free of hoof and mouth disease, which, according to Argentine officials, has been the case for the last eight years. During this time the country has lost US$2billion in exports due to an unfair protectionist measure, they say. Exports are expected to begin in September.
