Puerto Rico's budget crisis has come to a head as bondholders are being asked to consider a moratorium on the island's long-standing and unpayable public debt. International financial organizations consider Puerto Rico's US$73 billion public debt to be unsustainable. Governor Alejandro Garcia has appointed a working group to negotiate a suspension of payments with bondholders. Washington is not contemplating a bailout for the island. teleSUR
