Despite President Rafael Correa’s appeal for a national debate on two taxes aimed at wealth redistribution, Jaime Nebot, the right-wing mayor of the country’s largest and wealthiest city Guayaquil, has called for further demonstrations by upper class Ecuadoreans against the measures.
