MEGAMAN X FPS CANCELLED (Escapist News Now)

Capcom has cancelled another Mega Man game. It was a first person shooter titled Maverick Hunter and was a reboot of the Mega Man X series developed by Armature Studio, a relatively new studio founded by Metroid Prime developers. The project had only been in development for 6 months, but in that short time the team assembled a working prototype and nailed down the general look and feel of the game according to Polygon.

Core concepts of the series were revamped like using dash to finish off enemies or replacing the X-Buster arm as a transforming handheld gun. The game was given a darker, more mature feel than previous installments in the franchise. It was also slated to feature a reimagined version of Zero, along with several other plot points that were to be written by a western scenario writer.

It was canned in late 2010 right before Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune departed Capcom, much like the fate of other Mega Man games like Legends 3 and Universe. With so many cancelled Mega Man games, it is curious that Capcom has yet another one in development which they recently announced at PAX East.
