Did you celebrate when Microsoft announced they were eliminating DRM? Well turns out not everyone was. What's up guys, Andrea Rene here for Escapist News Now. After Sony's press conference at E3 Microsoft was pressured into changing some of their restriction Digital Rights Management policies for the upcoming Xbox One. But not everyone was happy about it.
.
In fact, some people were so outraged that Microsoft would curtail their innovation just to compete with Sony, that they have started a petition. Thanks to Jim Sterling for bringing this to my attention, the petition currently has over 1,000 signatures and counting. The campaign leader writes, "This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share, or sell those digital licenses. Essentially it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away...We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compromise."
.
It appears as though there are people on the petition that are genuinely interested in seeing the online policies return to the Xbox One, but there are also clearly trolls on the petition as well. Some of the comments on the petition webpage are quite hysterical, such as "It is so important that the Xbox One is shittier again" or "I don't want to let my friend borrow games because, fuck them."
.
The internet is a place to protest whatever you'd like but let's get real, the odds of Microsoft re-reversing this policy just isn't going to happen, at least not before the launch of the console. But who knows? Let me know what you guys think by leaving me a comment below and don't forget to hit subscribe to get all the latest news. Thanks for watching and I'll see you next time.
