Jenn Rogien, the wardrobe mastermind behind HBO's Brand New Series Girls dishes the deets on costuming these four girls for the Big City.
The series is no Sex & the City, even though it's about four girls, living in Manhattan—these 20 year olds don't have the cash money for Louboutin's galore or walk in closets like our beloved Carrie.
But what they do have is a wardrobe head that loves Vintage. Going with the vision of triple threat star, Lena Dunham, who directed, wrote and produced the pilot for the show—Jenn had a task in front of her.
Jenn told Fashion Etc, quote, "They weren't trying to do a fashion show, they were not trying to redo Sex & The City, they were not trying to do Gossip Girl." So what were they trying to do, you ask??
Well according to Jenn—they wanted to do these crazy girls who aren't necessarily all that put together.
And being that these Girls aren't exactly on the never ending budget, Jenn had to figure out a way to have the foursome look fantastic, but realistic to the show as well.
Jenn dished to Fashion ETC, that quote, "We really relied on character and the actors to sort of feel it out as we were doing our fittings and see "You know this is a great piece but it's way outside of what Marnie would be able to afford. Can we find it at Loehmann's?
My kind of show—budget, but fashionable, Girls has it all—and as far as Jenn taking her expertise in styling the hit show to her very own runway collection, she tells Fashion ETC that she doesn't know that it would be quote her strong point!"
