MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF MORDOR REVEALED (Escapist News Now)
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced a new third-person action game set in Middle-earth that will be coming to the next generation of consoles.
Titled Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor the game is featured on the December issue of Game Informer. Players will take on the role of Talion, a ranger whose family is killed the night Sauron returns to Mordor with his army. Talion will go on a personal vengeance journey where along the way he'll discover the origins of the Rings of Power.
Warner Bros. SVP of Production and Development said, "The game introduces new gameplay mechanics to the action genre, creating opportunities for emergent and customized gameplay." So what does that mean exactly? According to the press release every enemy is a, "...unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archnemesis that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session."
The game is being developed by Monolith the folks behind F.E.A.R. and Guardians of Middle Earth and they told Game Informer the game will be a next-gen sandbox. They have been collaborating with Peter Jackson, Middle-earth Enterprises, and artists from Weta Workshop to make sure the game truly fits into the canon of Tolkien's work. It will be coming to the Xbox One, the 360, the Playstation 4, and PS3 along with PC.
