Chad's military says it has carried out a series of air strikes against Boko Haram bases in Nigeria as retaliation for twin bombings in the Chadian capital at the start of the week. Meanwhile, at least 38 people are killed in Niger in a Boko Haram attack. Also, Katanga province in Democratic Republic of Congo is being wiped off the map. In its place will be four new regions, a change that has locals divided. And Ramadan begins in Burkina Faso, but markets remain almost empty.
