Chile: Thousands March Against Government Education Reforms

2015-06-18 1

Police fired water cannons and tear gas at thousands of teachers and students marching against so-called education reforms in Chile on Wednesday. The march took place as one of many actions in an indefinite teachers’ strike that began on June 1, and has affected 2200 schools. Over 60% of Chilean citizens support the strike. Students and teachers demanding free, quality education for everyone say they have not been consulted on the changes in testing and are demanding a greater say. teleSUR
