What could be better than pickles, black bread, herring and ice cold vodka. Such a simple, delicious snack. This has to be Dmitry Leus Cuisine’s all-time favourite, go-to snack. It could be for a light lunch, it could be as a quick snack with a few drinks but this is certainly a staple snack for any Russian, or Eastern European for that matter.

The zesty pickly perfectly complements the deliciously rich and oily herring. Next comes the refreshingly iced vodka which you should sip as you eat. Finally a big bite of heavy, chewy black bread (ЧЁРНЫЙ ХЛЕБ) or rye bread to soak it all up. There are so many variations on this theme, as always Dmitry Leus

Cuisine is keen to share them with you. Pickles are always a must and you can pickle them in any way you like but the best has to be dill, white wine vinegar, salt and garlic. You can of course have many different kinds of pickled fish to go with it or smoked, which is a more interesting variation. As well as the pickles you can add some spring onions to munch for freshness and crunch.
