The wife of former Mexican president Felipe Calderon, Margarita Zavala announced that she will run for president in the 2018 elections. Zavala left open the possibility of running as an independent candidate even though she is a member of the right-wing National Action Party. She has been in conflict with its leadership since Calderon abandoned the party in 2012. Her husband is responsible for declaring the bloody war on drugs that has left approximately 100,000 people dead and tens of thousands disappeared in Mexico. teleSUR
