HIgh-level diplomats from Venezuela and the United States met on Saturday in Haiti in an effort to improve bilateral relations. The Venezuelan delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez and the National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello, while the U.S. side was represented by State Department Counselor Thomas Shannon. The encounter was mediated by the host country's president Michel Martelly. “What we’re asking for is more respect,” said Cabello, “and if possible a shared agenda based on respect.” Afterwards Rodriguez tweeted that the meeting had been held with Shannon with a view towards normalizing relatoins. She thanked the Haitian president for his generous welcome. teleSUR
