In another statistics marking the increasing weight gain of the average American, women these days now weigh nearly the same on average as men did in the 1960s.

An average woman in the U.S. today weighs nearly the same as a man from the 1960s, or about 166.2 pounds on average.

She used to weigh 26 pounds less at 140.2 pounds back then.

By the same measure, the average modern man in the U.S. currently weighs just under 196 pounds which is almost 30 pounds heavier than his 1960s counterpart.

Part of this gain can be attributed to height, as men have grown an inch and women have added a little less than three-quarters of an inch.
