US: Congressional Subcommittee Blocks Funding for Embassy in Cuba

2015-06-12 0

A congressional subcommittee has blocked funding to open a U.S. embassy in Havana. The bill, approved by the House Appropriation Committee, forbids the State Department from spending money to open an embassy in Cuba. The bill now goes to the full House of Representatives, then to the Senate and if approved, then to President Barack Obama for his signature. Nevertheless, by a 2/3 majority, U.S. public opinion solidly supports the reestablishing of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the lifting of the blockade.
