Venezuela: Guyana Border Dispute Fueled by Oil Giant

Oil exploration by the U.S. transnational Exxon-Mobile is threatening to exacerbate a long-running border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. Last month Exxon claimed it found oil off Guyana’s coast. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez insists that the claims of the new government of Guyana are a provocation instigated by the international oil giant and that the matter should be handled through peaceful dialogue. The best way to settle the dispute would be via a mechanism created in a 1996 treaty signed in Geneva, say Venezuelan officials. teleSUR
