A new round of protests are scheduled for today in Honduras to demand the resignation of President Juan Orlando Hernandez, whose government is immersed in a major corruption scandal. Over US$350 million was siphoned off from the national social security and health system, with some of the embezzled funds used to finance Hernandez's 2013 election campaign. As a result of the theft, the public health system is woefully underfunded, with a resulting 30% backlog in medical procedures. It is the poor who suffer the most from the health system's financial crunch. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
