The FIFA scandal and declarations by the world soccer federation's former vice president Jack Warner is sending shock waves through the political system in Trinidad and Tobago. Warner is currently out on bail in the Caribbean nation and a request for his extradition to the United States is pending in the courts. Among the revelations that Warner made in a paid TV message is that FIFA money was used to finance and influence the 2010 election campaigns in Trinidad and Tobago. He said funds from FIFA and himself were used to finance current Prime Minister's Kamla Persad-Bissessar's ruling United National Congress (UNC). A company owned by Warner paid a local advertising firm US$270,000 for the UNC's campaign a month before the elections. The Prime Minister denies receiving any money from Warner for her party or herself. teleSUR
