MQM Founder and Leader Altaf Hussain has said that unprecedented rigging was done during the Local Government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the history of Pakistan.
Talking to a private news channel Mr Hussain said that different new channels had shown visuals of the worst kind of rigging. At some places, people with cricket bats were shown running with the ballot boxes.
“People were not allowed to cast their votes. But for the rigging the PTI would have got less number of seats due to its poor performance in the province.”
Mr Hussain said that women constitute more than 51 percent of the total population of Pakistan, but they were deprived of their right to vote in the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said it was the duty of the Election Commission of Pakistan should declare the election results null and void and order fresh local government elections in KPK.
“Rangers personnel should be deputed both inside and outside the polling stations, and CCTV cameras should be installed as was done at the time of by-election for NA – 246. If the PTI candidates win in the fresh election, I would personally congratulate Mr Imran Khan.”
He said that in past General Yahya Khan had conducted elections under the army. The country has not seen more transparent elections so far.
Expressing his grief on the arrest of ANP leader Mian IftikharHussain, he said, “I could not restrain my tears by seeing a senior and honest political leader in handcuffs. Mian Iftikhar Hussain lost his son in the fight against religious fanaticism. Implicating such a veteran political leader in a murder case his worthy of strong condemnation.”
