MANILA -- The town of Masinloc in Zambales has been placed under state of calamity after almost the entire town was submerged in floods during the onslaught of typhoon "Labuyo."
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said floods submerged about 90% of the entire town and destroyed several roads and bridges, forcing local officials to declare a state of calamity.
Severe flooding on Monday morning affected some 1,178 families or 25,229 individuals.
Due to the declaration of state of calamity, the local government may now access easily its calamity funds.
Residents who sought refuge in evacuation centers, meanwhile, are expected to return to their respective homes because of the improved weather.
Aside from Masinloc, the towns of Casiguran, Dinalungan and Dilasag have also been placed under state of calamity.-- report from Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
