4 dead, 1 hurt in N. Ecija ambush

MANILA -- Four people were killed and one got wounded in an ambush in San Lorenzo, Gapan City, Nueva Ecija on Tuesday morning.

Sr. Supt. Crizaldo Nieves, Nueva Ecija Police chief, said 5 unidentified suspects on board a Toyota Hi-Lux (TT 1506) opened fire at the victims at around 10:30 a.m. in an eatery.

Police said the target of the ambush was businessman Emerson Pascual, a member of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) who was not new to death threats.

Pascual survived the shooting but his driver, 44-year-old Rufino Vendivel, and King Jasper Juvinal died on the spot.
PO2 Jeferson Lim, one of Pascual's security escorts, and 85-year-old Consuelo Manse died in a hospital.

A certain Rodney Garcia, meanwhile, remains in critical condition.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting.

The vehicle used by suspects was later recovered in Brgy. Malapit, San Isidro town. Investigation also revealed that the vehicle was stolen.
